The Inertia

“We have to get our hands into each other’s shit every now and then.” – Sean Busby

When you have as awesome of a relationship as Sean and Mollie Busby seemingly have, getting your hands into each other’s shit isn’t as bad as it might otherwise be if that “other” was someone you didn’t love unconditionally. But the Busbys don’t have that problem. They live in a yurt and are damn happy about it.

In fact, they are so damn happy that they don’t give a damn what you think — but that isn’t to say they won’t gladly explain their reasonings to anyone who asks, which is an increasing few as time passes by. His wife Mollie tells it how it is: “I think one of the things when you make a decision to live off the grid or live in a yurt… one of the things you really have to control is the chatter from other people in your life. When they see that you’re doing it for an extended period and you’re love it and living it, they’re like, ‘Well, why are you doing it?'”

Why do they do it? It allows them to focus on what they are passionate about, which is being outdoors, and being active.

Good enough reasoning for me! Did we mention that the yurt is solar-powered?

Also, does Sean Busby’s name sound familiar? It should. He is a professional backcountry rider who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when training for the 2010 Olympics. Since the tough diagnosis, he and his wife started Riding on Insulin, an organization with a goal to “empower, activate and connect the global diabetes community.”

Good to see he is doing well. And from the looks of it, really, really, REALLY well.

Between the Busbys and Mike Basich and Tim Eddy, snowboarders are making me proud (and envious).
