Michel Bourez and Nathan Hedge are in the final stages of preparation for the Billabong Pro Tahiti. The event means a great deal to each of them with Hedge saying it’s the most important event in the world – a big claim given the positioning of Pipe. For Bourez, Teahupo’o is his home break, which means he’s at a slight advantage over some. However, as discerning ASP fans know, it’s anyone’s game.
This is the story the of two competitors as they prepare for what could be the best event of the year. Hedge is in the midst of an emotional competitive comeback, while Michel is vying to become Tahiti’s first World Champion after a hot start to his 2014 campaign, chalking up wins at Margaret River and Rio.
In Episode Two of Red Bull’s “21 Days” series (see Episode One here), Nathan Hedge stocks up on good karma by teaching kids with cystic fibrosis how to surf in San Clemente, California, with the Mauli Ola Foundation. Meanwhile, Michel focuses on the event by training back home in Tahiti. Whose preparation will pay off more will be on display when the Billabong Pro Tahiti kicks off? Stay tuned as the waiting period opens Friday, August 15.
