Aritz Aranburu has been creating an incredible series of short films about his travels around the world. In a departure from the usual surf porn, #GOARITZ is about the places he goes–and not only about their waves, because waves aren’t always the most important part of a surf trip.
There’s a good chance that Nias is high on your bucket list. It’s a dream wave. It’s not a safe wave, though–the reef is treacherously shallow, and according to Aritz, the 2005 earthquake made it even shallower. When Aritz found himself in the middle of a flat spell with nothing on the horizon, he decided to pack his bags and head for Indonesia. The forecast looked promising for Nias, so along with Indar Unanue and Leonardo Fioravanti, he packed his bags and headed out.
The swell that looked promising turned out to be nearly perfect, and for three days, the wave pumped as hard as it could. What resulted is a beautiful short film about one of the world’s best waves.
