Coast or park? The beauty of options in Sweden.
Soon, surfing throughout Europe won’t be confined to the coastline. With recent artificial wave developments popping up in Spain and the United Kingdom, this project, titled “Fun Surf Town,” will save Swedish inlanders the hike of getting to the coast.
The project is set to break ground in Varberg, a town not far from the ocean on a coastline which has the potential for waves. Wavegarden technology will be applied here as well making the setup world-class and allowing for a diversity of settings for Sweden’s surfing community to engage. Two popular Swedish surf spots, Apelviken and Lajet, are right nearby as well for those who would rather not wait in line.
The Wavegarden pool in Varberg will feature 300-meter rights and lefts and have an inside zone for beginners to learn as well as an outside section for intermediate and advanced surfers to push their abilities. Aside from the wave itself, Sweden’s Wavegarden park will also feature restaurants, locker rooms, a parking lot, rooms for rent and a water park that looks to be child safe.
This is just the next step in the proliferation of artificial waves throughout Europe. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for new projects popping up in Portugal and France.
