Not again! Surf Snowdonia is experiencing more technical difficulties and is scheduled to shut down for two days. Photo: Surf Snowdonia

Do you want the good news first or the bad? Let’s start with the bad – rip it off like a bandaid. Surf Snowdonia will officially close down for the second time since opening almost two months ago. And the good? Unlike the first time, which saw a closure of 10 days, this time around will only take two. I know, it’s still bad news. But it’s not as bad.
The closure is due to a tear in the pool’s liner that’s causing water to leak, reports the UK’s Daily Post. Operations are scheduled to continue as normal, but divers will inspect the damage on Wednesday. After which, Snowdonia representatives will reveal when the two-day closure will commence. For those booked for sessions during the repairs, Snowdonia will offer either a full refund or credit at the facility.
Despite the groundbreaking carnage that went down during last weekend’s Red Bull Unleashed, Snowdonia denies that the tear was a result of a surfboard. The location of the damage is near the edge of the pool, which isn’t where surfers typically ride the manmade waves. And because it’s on the outskirts, the repair process will only require a partial draining of the pool.
The whole thing is a significant bummer, especially for those who’ve been waiting two months to ride the wave for the first time. But let’s be honest. Snowdonia is the pinnacle of artificial wave technology, so it’s no surprise that there would be some hiccups along the way. It’s only the beginning of this futuristic form of surfing. It’s the stone age. Imagine where they’ll be in 10 years time. Imagine what your Grandkids will be surfing! Who am I kidding…By then, surfing as we know it will be like vinyl records – a nostalgic novelty outdated by hover boards and virtual reality. “Back in my day you actually had to paddle for a wave.“
