The Inertia

The largest swell of the season is approaching South Africa, opening the door for a possible call at Dungeons. Thankfully, the ASP WCT will see epic conditions for the final rounds of the J-Bay Open. Meanwhile in Cape Town, if the predicted swell brings the right conditions, the Big Wave World Tour may also get the green light for competition at South Africa’s most dangerous big wave break.

The Southern Hemi’s big wave season is upon us. Anticipation is building in South Africa for the possibility of XXL wave heights. Take a glance at the storm graphs, and it’s clear that energy is high and growing steadily. There have recently been several strong swells popping up on the map heading right for Cape Town, the southwestern tip of the African continent.

If the forecast calls for 30 ft+ wave faces with favorable winds, the conditions may line up for a possible event call.

Now with Dungeons on the ASP Big Wave World Tour, the dangerous spot is due to blow up in the near future. There has not yet been an official call for the Dungeons Challenge off Cape Town, but keep your eyes on the approaching swells as big wave surfers make a pitmove chasing the world’s largest and most challenging waves.

Now under ASP’s jurisdiction, there are rumors of three competitor spots available for the World Championship Tour surfers, which may just mean you see Kelly Slater (USA) or John John Florence (HAW) in the lineup.
