This winter has been one to remember here in New Jersey. The waves have been solid all month and freezing temperatures and snow have made the beaches look more like the Arctic than the Mid-Atlantic. Winter storms spanning the alphabetical gamut have created great surf on a seemingly unending basis.
A majority of the local surf community follow the swells, but with all the snow, sometimes the roads are super bad. On one such occasion, I decided to stay put and shoot some lonely snow-covered beaches. After a long day of driving, I headed back home to check my local surf spot in Asbury Park and, to my surprise, I saw tons of dredging equipment and the entire beach blocked off. No surfers were out and it was pumping. I tried to grab a few pictures but was quickly escorted off by the construction’s security. Hopefully, those barrels won’t be the last I see breaking off that great sandbar.
