We were all waiting for this swell. Drooling on keyboards. Re-waxing dusty step-ups. Getting excited. Shane Dorian was too. He was actually on a boat trip in Indo, when he decided to change course in the last second for a surgical strike to Puerto Escondido. The decision was a calculated risk for Shane-O considering he claims that he had never had a memorable there over the years. Well, that changed on July 5th. Because he came back with a sure-fire Wave of the Year Contender.
And to sweeten the sauce, that mammoth came immediately after Dorian bailed on the set wave that preceded it. “If I get any opportunity, I’m gonna try and really go,” Dorian told Six Magazine after missing the wave before it.
So he went.
