I’ve always had a passion for film. In fourth grade I received my first video camera. Itching to shoot my first feature, I quickly realized I would need a specialized team to make anything substantial. After a few phone calls I hired the best talent I knew, my friends. Together we created a handful of short films that were bizarre yet hilarious.
A few years later in high school, friends and I began a small film company called Flashbulb Entertainment. Through Flashbulb I filmed and edited multiple short films that were entered and won at local film festivals. Shortly after my work with Flashbulb I began to study film at Saddleback College, however, I am largely self-taught, and incredibly self-motivated to learn new cinematic techniques. By this time I was not certain of which path I wanted to follow in film, whether it be small independent work or to try working in Hollywood.
As I continued to contemplate my future as a cinematographer, I was presented with an exciting new challenge. In January 2011, I found a new passion for photography. My close friend Ryan Franz asked me to take surf photos of him. I wasn’t sure of how I’d perform as I never was focused on photography, but my hesitations proved unnecessary. Ever since Ryan’s proposition I’ve been absolutely hooked with photographing surf and the ocean.
I strive to continue building my talent, to improve my creative outlook, and to use my skills daily. To work as a cinematographer, photographer and/or editor in the surf industry would be a dream come true and is a dream that I push towards daily.
The video below is one of my projects from 2011.
