The cobblestones, the beautiful open faces, the topographical coastline… it’s all too freakishly similar to Southern California’s favorite right hand point break. The only real difference is the unmistakeable absence of others surfers, and, of course, the bone-chilling air and water. Which brings me to another observation: How the hell is Pete still able to surf so well?
Ever get that near-hypothermic feeling? You know, that sensation you get when your muscles and joints feel like they’re literally frozen stiff? Yeah, well, add five millimeters of rubber to that equation and you’re left in a hellish state of bitter animosity and immobility. That rule, however, doesn’t hold true for everyone. At least not for Canada’s Pete Devries. Despite the numbing conditions, Pete’s dexterity and range of motion are as if he’s surfing in boardies. How this is possible is a complete mystery.
