The Inertia

If I had to choose, I’d say that Craig Anderson has the best style on a surfboard. Of course, it’s all completely subjective, but for my money, the quiet guy with the long hair and skinny legs has a flair that no one else can match. And for a brief few seconds in La Danse Macabre, we get to see that flair. The rest of it… not so much.

To be fair, La Danse Macabre is an “experimental film between nightmares and reality, fiction and dreams”, and the people over at Desillusion Magazine usually knock their films out of the park. I figured that Craig Anderson and Desillusion would be a match made in heaven! Artsy without too much fartsy. Anderson and that nonchalant back leg. It could all be so grand! And it wasn’t. It was Craig Anderson complaining about nothing in a parking lot interspersed with fucking incredible surfing and fucking incredible cinematography paired with the healthiest of portions of slow motion. So much slow motion! So much fartsy! So much sad!

But, like style, film is subjective. You might love it. And if you do, have a look at 49 Desillusion Magazine, Volume 1. The blandness you see above is based on an interview called “I Don’t Do Interviews.”
