The Inertia

On the stunning Pacific Coast in the municipality of Tola exists Nicaragua’s most iconic a-frame: Popoyo. This warm-water, barrel-laden beach has long been revered as one of Central America’s greatest waves. Thus, it’s no wonder why the ISA World Surfing Games have been so keen on hosting an event here. But now the wait is over. Come May 31st, 25 countries from around the world will descend upon this wonderful beach to compete in the highly anticipated 2015 ISA World Surfing Games.

“Nicaragua’s commitment to the sport of surfing has shown its true value… [it’s] now the number one attraction for tourists,” explained ISA president, Fernando Aguerre. The world’s most talented surfers, including Damien Hobgood, Nic Von Rupp, Ian Crane, and Nathaniel Curran, will be gearing up for the event later this month. So tune in May 31st – June 7th to cheer on your country amongst the 25 represented—all of whom will be looking to take home the gold medals in the Open Men’s and Women’s divisions.
