After a surprising summer full of swell in New Jersey — the summer months typically go flat here — the last official day of summer, September 22, 2014, would go out with a bang. With the sun shinning bright and the winds offshore, a perfect head-high-plus right peels down the beach, and Mike Ciaramella was there to enjoy them all to his self while I captured the action on this picture-perfect day.
When I show my surf photography to people who aren’t really a part of the surf scene, they always ask, “New Jersey gets big waves!?!” This is my answer.
