The 2015 Vans World Cup of Surfing just came to an end, and Sunset Beach could not have been better. Though John John Florence, Matt Wilkinson, and Julian Wilson put up a fight in the final four-man heat, it was the current Jeep Leader Mick Fanning who took home his first gold at Sunset Beach. This marks Mick’s third victory this year.
In the final heat, Julian Wilson came out of the gates blazing by locking in a 9.47 early in the round, and kept a tight grip on his competitors for most of the heat. With 12 minutes left, Mick Fanning slid into a massive hollow barrel, followed by a huge wrap and earned himself a 9.87.
Although this victory has no world title implications, it does give Mick a major boost of confidence heading into the Billabong Pipe Masters, which begins December 8th.
