During the 2011 Billabong Pro, a massive swell ran into Teahupoo’s reef, churning out monsters that dwarfed anything we’ve seen for a long time and producing some of the heaviest waves imaginable. While the French Navy pronounced a Code Red, prohibiting anyone from entering the water, a select few madmen whipped into cavernous barrels. Chris Bryan happened to be in the water that day, and using a Phantom HD Gold camera, captured some of the craziest footage of one of the craziest days in surfing’s history.
