There are a few professional surfers that seem to have a strange ability to talk to the ocean. Just when they really need it, a lump shows up on the horizon, with just enough time on the clock to beat that buzzer. Kelly Slater is one of those surfers. And while he didn’t win the Hurley Pro at Lowers, his last wave in round five against Taj Burrow is a testament to that weird connection. With 40 seconds left Slater trailed Burrow, needing a 7.23. A set showed up just on time, as per Kelly’s usual… and when the scores dropped, they came in at 7.27. That close enough for ya?
