Kai Lenny describes it as paddling into one wave and having the ability to ride two. Huh? According to Hurley it’s the first ever self-propelled hydrofoil. We’ve seen people tow into waves, strapped to their boards. And we’ve seen surfers propel themselves with paddles. This is entirely different.
The man basically just invented a new way of surfing altogether. So here he is, standing atop a short board attached to a hydrofoil, and rather than kicking out, paddling back to the lineup and waiting for the next wave, he just endlessly pumps and surfs his way into oncoming sets. Rinse and repeat.
“One of the most incredible feelings I’ve ever felt in surfing is when you can paddle for one wave but ride two,” he wrote. “Hydrofoil Surfing has opened my world to new experiences and surfed spots I would have never looked twice at.”
It’s not the easiest picture to paint with words. You should just watch the video because it’s the kind of awesome we’d only get from Kai Lenny.
