The Inertia

Congratulations to John John Florence for walking away with the well-deserved victory at the 2015 Volcom Pipe Pro. In the action-packed Final against Kelly Slater, Mason Ho, and Sebastian Zietz, John John started his campaign by locking in a 9.2 and 8.43 in the beginning of the heat and remained on top all the way to the winner’s podium. This is the North Shore local’s fourth Volcom Pipe Pro victory.

Conditions on the final day on the North Shore were inconsistent but suitable for some incredible rides, as solid swell from the NW and  winds produced some great barrels at Backdoor. Coming in second was local boy Mason Ho (15.9) who narrowly lost to John John (17.63), followed by Kelly Slater (9.0) and Sebastian Zietz (8.47). As equally impressive as John John’s performance was Kelly Slater who was given $1,000 for his perfect 10 in Quarter Final number 3.

Going into the Australian leg starting at the end of February, the win at Pipe will certainly be a big confidence booster for John John in kicking off the 2015 year of competition. In the post-heat interview, John John Florence explained that he has his eyes on the world title this year. With surfing like what he displayed throughout the entire Volcom Pipe Pro, a world title for the 22-year-old Hawaiian is not at all out of the question.

And watch John John’s ridiculous barrel to air in the final. On a Backdoor wave, no less.
