The Inertia

Picking a fantasy team these days is no easy task. It’s like having to choose your favorite sibling, favorite band, or least likable hothead “celebrity” that is seemingly everywhere you turn—it’s hard to choose just one, or even a few.

But as I leafed through and evaluated those lovable mugs on tour (who are all equally capable of winning France), I visualized Bede’s robust frame bulldozing through barrel sections and making use of those wrapping man-turns in the powerful beach breaks of Southwest France. Thank God I did, because Bede Durbidge found himself on arguably the best waves of round three and tore the lid off them, to say the very least.

“Heat of the year,” Julian Wilson wrote on his Instagram, following Bede’s back-to-back nine-point rides. In addition to Bede’s exceptional performance, the waves and conditions couldn’t have been any better. Pumping swell, glassy texture, and a light offshore breeze made for some of the most incredible rides we’ve seen this year. Here’s Bede going bananas in his round 3 matchup with Ace Buchan.
