“We drove the ski way out, way outside. I remember whipping back around and it set us right in the path for the perfect one. I let go of the rope, and the next thing you know, by the time I was halfway through the wave, this thing was growing. There was nothing to do but commit… I have never gotten a wave like that in my life on a skimboard..” – Brad Domke, 26

Floridian Brad Domke made history last summer, towing into the largest wave in history on a skimboard. Now at 26-years-old, he is nominated for ‘Ride of the Year’ at Puerto Escondido, which could win him a giant check worth $50K. In this video he describes the ride of his life, and his love for the ocean.

The World Surf League is gearing up for the Emmy’s of big-wave surfing, where for one night all the greatest and bravest in the sport convene under one roof to acknowledge the most progressive big-wave professionals.

The Big Wave Awards first launched in 2000, to recognize the surfer who rode the year’s biggest wave. Now approaching its 15th anniversary, the Big Wave Awards has grown to include seven categories. For the 2015 awards, hundreds of entries were submitted from all corners of the globe. Entries to this year’s award show are sure to impress.
