According to a report by The Christian Post, pro surfer Bethany Hamilton recently endured a wipeout that required ten stitches in her bicep and raised concerns about the possibility of a cut nerve.
The accident occurred in Indonesia last Wednesday while Hamilton was on a Rip Curl sponsored trip to the Mentawais.
In an online letter from family members, they asked for prayers for Bethany. “Her surfboard fin sliced her bicep, she got 10 stitches, but now has some numbness in her arm which is a bit concerning,” her family wrote.
According to the letter, Hamilton may need an operation.
“We talked to Dr. Rovinsky (Hamilton’s surgeon when she lost her arm) here on Kauai and it’s likely that she cut a nerve during the incident, she may have to have surgery to repair it.”
Hamilton lost her left arm to a shark attack in Kauai in October of 2003. Her incredible comeback was recently detailed in the autobiographical Hollywood film “Soul Surfer.”
