The Inertia

Waimea Bay can be absolutely colossal. It’s scary big. In fact, Clyde Aikau, event competitor and brother of Eddie Aikau, said it’s this moment in time was the best Waimea Bay he’s seen in over 40 years. And by no surprise, thousands of spectators have occupied virtually every inch of the surrounding coast, eager to witness history in the making.

In addition to the carnage occurring in the lineup, the 50+-foot faces brought an unexpected surprise to a few dozen beach spectators who learned firsthand to never, never underestimate the power of the ocean—especially at Waimea Bay.  And aside from a few waterlogged electronics, everyone walked away from the incident shaken but unharmed.
