Adriano de Souza broke his his nose recently while surfing. According to his Facebook, the Brazilian was “inside the tube and ended up not seeing this surfer, who wasn’t on the wave but trying to cross it.”
Don’t worry about your Fantasy Surfer, though. Adriano de Souza, who sits at sixth place in the world rankings, underwent surgery to set the bone so that he’s able to compete at J-Bay. After the season is done, he plans on having a second surgery to reset his septum and possible have reconstructive surgery.
“Thank God it wasn’t worse,” de Souza said on Facebook. “This accident could have left me out of the water for many years if the board had hit me somewhere else in the head.”
The surgery went smoothly, and de Souza is now under instruction to rest up.
