Did you love the original Point Break and hate the new one? Ok, but did you love the original? As in were you obsessed? Because Patrick Swayze’s estate is currently auctioning off a handful of items worn and used by Swayze in the film. So if that obsession runs deep and you’ve got a couple grand to blow, items like the board Bodhi rode in the night surfing scene could be yours. There are also two wetsuits up for auction, a t-shirt, and the board Swayze learned to surf on when preparing for his role in the film.
The descriptions of most of the items are pretty unremarkable (something to the effect of this item was used in the production of Point Break), but the board ridden in the night surfing scene is accompanied by some interesting trivia. Here’s the description:
“A Spyder brand surfboard custom designed by Dennis Jarvis for Patrick Swayze to use in his iconic role as Bodhi in the film Point Break (Largo Entertainment, 1991). The surfboard features an approximately 15-inch-long, 1.5-inch-wide channel running up the center of the board to allow for Swayze’s unusually pronounced sternum. The board is inscribed to the underside beneath the final coat of resin ‘Dennis Jarvis, California, 02635, for Patrick Swayze.’ At least two additional boards were made for the production. This particular execution appears closest to the one used in the night surfing scene, which takes place at the end of Bodhi’s beach house party. Accompanied by a copy of the film.”
Who knew Bodhi had an unusually pronounced sternum that necessitated a channel on the deck of his board?
The current asking price is $2,000 for this particular piece and according to the auction site could get up to $6,000. The other pieces range in price.
So if you’re a memorabilia buff or a huge Point Break fan, now is your chance to own a piece of history. For the rest of us, we’ll stick with rewatching the film over and over.
