The Billabong Pro Tahiti is an important stop for anyone on tour — especially with the competition being held at the ever-threatening Teahupo’o. But for two competitors, it carries a little more weight than usual. 21Days is a new series from Red Bull that follows their preparations.

For Michel Bourez, it is an opportunity to capitalize on the best form of his career that sees him at number five in the world, winning at the one competition held in his home country. He has one two competitions thus far, and is looking to make a run as a contender for the world title. What is he doing differently? Jiu-jitsu. Yep, the increasingly popular martial art has given him a much needed patience and appreciation for the moment that translates to the stress of heats.

For Nathan Hedge, it is an opportunity to prove to himself and others that succumbing to the party life and falling off tour wasn’t the end of his story. And with a string of good showings at qualifiers, he is determined to add a couple of chapters. While he may not have a coach or even jiu-jitsu master to show him the way, he is calling upon old friends such as Taylor Knox to return him to competitive form.

Needless to say, we’re looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.
