The Inertia

… for $1250 each. Yep, the Australian designer and shaper is taking up real estate in New York as part of the most recent “Cage” installation at high fashion designer Alexander Wang’s Soho flagship in downtown. This particular installation features five marble print surboards, and is the latest in Haydenshapes’ creative collaborations, having previously worked with Stolen and Simon Upton.

How did this all happen? The Creative Director of Balenciaga (yet another high fashion brand) wanted to develop high-end surfboards as artwork, but in doing so wanted to also maintain a display of authenticity. So the artwork was developed in a collaborative effort by both Wang and Haydenshapes, which then were printed onto Hypto Krypto boards personally crafted by Hayden Cox.

We’re spending a whole lot of time in rubbing shoulders with these fashionable folk — last week saw the ASP hobnob with the likes of brash Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and pocket-sized Vogue editor Anna Wintour. And now our boards are on display at Alexander Wang’s Soho flagship? Whether you think it is good or not — we’re not exactly sure how we feel — talk about movin’ on up.

Next up? Cashmere wetsuits. Seriously though, we wouldn’t be surprised.
