Maybe getting snubbed by the X Games was a good thing. After winning a Dew Tour event earlier this year against some of the best competition in the world, Shaun White announced on Access Hollywood (arguably the weirdest venue for a snowboarder to announce anything) that he would try and compete at the 2018 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
It’s been a bit of a dry spell for White, who finished a disappointing fourth in Sochi in the halfpipe. He hasn’t medaled at the X Games since 2013.
White’s Air + Style event is set for this weekend in Los Angeles and he made the announcement while promoting the contest that will take place in the LA Coliseum.
White still has to go through the rigor of qualifying for the games to make the team. White will be 30 by the time most of the qualifying takes place. By no means old in real life but in the hyper youthful snowboarding world, he’ll be considered a vet. White would be 31 by the time the Olympic games roll around in South Korea, February 9-25 of 2018.
