Dogs will be dogs… that is unless they’re rocking the OUTWARDLY most unnecessary canine accessory this side of the doggie poncho. We feel that we ought to be treating man’s best friend a little better, and a lot less like the dress-up dolls. That being said, we’re not all that sure about the functionality behind these Rex Specs, so we proceed knowingly at risk of speaking out of line.
“Tested on the mountains and rivers of Jackson Hole, Wyoming,” these are the real deal. How do we know that? Because they’re what MWD (military working dog) — the enlisted dogs so to speak — don them when gearing up for duty. But these are being additionally advertised as everydog wear, they type your goofy house dog that doesn’t know left from right should rock.
The website reads: “We ask a lot of our dogs; days on the trail, hours on the river, and peak upon peak — Rex Specs can handle it all. Since the founding of Rex Specs K9, our goal has been to develop and provide a protective K9 eyewear that can stand up to any level of activity.”
We’ll have to take they’re word on it as we’re not fluent in Bark.
Jokes aside, the backstory seems legit: “Since founding Rex Specs, our goal has been to develop and provide a protective K9 eyewear that can stand up to the level of activity we enjoy with our dogs. One of the co-founding dogs was diagnosed with Pannus (Chronic Superficial Keratits) the other is a fair-skinned husky whose eyes experienced frequent and severe sunburns. It came down to a decision between leaving them at home when the sun was high or having them wear eye protection all the time. Leaving them at home wasn’t an option, so we started making Rex Specs.”
So there’s that. Before we proceed, here is a video of Rex Specs-wearing dogs.
“What the fuck, man?” the dogs ask, probably.
“Get these nostril docks off me!” they shout.
Anyway, we’ll let you make your own decision, but if you’re not training your pup to grow up to be a MWD with Seal Team Six and all that craziness, then perhaps these Rex Specs are a little overkill. But if you are, indeed, training your pup to grow up to be a MWD — or it happens to have Pannus or experience sunburns — then by all means, protect that pup’s eyes!
Hooah… or, rather, woof-ah.
