Travis Rice has done so much in the world of snow and board, he’s constantly looking for new angles. Hence the impetus for his new film, The Fourth Phase, a storm-chasing whirlwind that has Rice looking much deeper at the substance he actually rides with some of the sport’s most iconic figures like Bryan Iguchi, Pat Moore and Jeremy Jones—as well as with some of its most inspirational young figures like style-Jedi Ben Ferguson. With the trailer released today, the project Rice has been working on since 2013 will, in essence, come to fruition on October 2nd with a web opener only Red Bull could pull off: the full film will be available to view for free.
In a fairly rad gesture to dirtbags worldwide, the Fourth Phase will premiere in its entirety at 9 p.m. and be time-shifted locally around the world. Red Bull TV will host the event, which has a solid chance to shut down the Internet.
We tried to get a hold of Rice, but he’s currently sailing somewhere in the South Pacific (dude seriously loves the ocean). “The mechanics of how our winters work have always been intriguing to me,” he said in a press release. “Creating The Fourth Phase brought an incredible group of snowboarders together with the hardest working, most committed production crew in the game, to witness first-hand the many moods of the North Pacific storm engine. The journey was created under the premise that to know something and to truly understand something – you have to become it.”
Hell yes, you do. Rice worked on the film that was shot in Japan, Russia and Alaska among other locales, with the Jackson Hole-based production company, Brain Farm, the same outfit that helped him create the now-iconic Art of Flight. The Fourth Phase debuts to live audiences September 8 in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium with stops around the world.
