Surfers Against Sewage has released an innovative sewage pollution warning service to inform beach goers when untreated sewage and storm water is being discharged into our nation’s favorite beaches. As the number of sewage spills continue to rise, SAS is making vital information available so that beach users can make informed decisions before they jump into the ocean.
The app is free to the public at www.sas.org.uk.
With the falling number of beaches achieving the best water quality standards, the Sewage Alert Service allows beach users to have the safest experience possible. When water quality standards reach dangerous levels, SAS is notified by participating water companies.
British and International Champion surfer Ben Skinner explained, “The Sewage Alert Service is a great app. Water users deserve to know when sewage is spilling into the sea. Nobody wants to unwittingly surf in sewage because the health risks range from the uncomfortable ear, nose and throat infections to much more serious health risks.”
