The Inertia

Everyone talks about how eating organic is great for you, but frankly, most of us don’t do it. Why? Because it’s not a priority for many of us, and it can be expensive. For most of us, we don’t perceive eating organic as critical because we don’t immediately see the consequences of not doing so. Rather, the consequences eating conventionally grown food affect our health over time.

However, world champ Kelly Slater has made a point to use his voice to make these consequences known. In this video for Hawaii GMO Justice, Slater discusses how top GMO companies are manipulating the seed supply and using harsh chemicals to produce food. This method of growing not only has toxic effects on our bodies, but it also ravages the environment, particularly in Hawaii. Hawaii’s isolated ecosystem is used as a test ground for many chemicals, and its limited resources cannot sustain these toxins, putting many local homes and citizens at risk.
